Emma

Emma sees admissions essay writing, like any personal narrative writing, as an opportunity for students to better understand themselves. Beginning with creative writing rather than admissions prompts, students discover their authentic voices and the stories that distinguish them as applicants. She tailors lessons to students' unique strengths, curiosities, and challenges, often drawing on literature to guide and inspire. Students leave not only with compelling admissions essays, but with writing skills they carry with them long after the application process has finished.

In addition to private tutoring, Emma has designed and taught creative nonfiction workshops for a range of ages and backgrounds, from undergraduates at Columbia University to underserved middle school students in after-school programs. Her passion for working with young people extends beyond the classroom. In the summer of 2023, she co-led a group of teenage girls on a 300-mile backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail, mentoring campers as they developed confidence, resilience, and independence alongside practical skills.

After five years working in tech, Emma earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction from Columbia University. At Middlebury College, she studied Environmental Studies and Nonfiction Writing and ran NCAA DIII Cross Country and Track. She completed her bachelor’s degree overseas at Oxford University where she wrote her undergraduate thesis about islands in British literature. Her essays about art and nature have appeared in the Los Angeles Review of Books and Down East Magazine.
