Michael
Writing Enrichment, STEM, Admissions Essays
A Bay Area native having received his B.A. in English and Literature from UC Berkeley with a perfect GPA, Michael has six years of experience tutoring and working with students K-12, as well as with college students. He has crafted English Language curriculums with a focus grammatical and stylistic writing competency as well as tutored STEM for middle schoolers.
Previously, Michael also worked as a journalist for AsianFeed, the leading media publication site for Asian American news, where his own skills as a writer were challenged during the national pandemic. As a first-generation Asian American, Michael understands more than most how competitive education can be, especially in the Bay Area, and can empathize deeply with the weight of internal and external expectations that students face today.
Michael fosters critical thinking, self-confidence, and agency in his students, and enjoys being a long-term mentor for them. He excels at teaching English to primary and secondary school students, and endeavors to motivate his kids far beyond the bare minimum of their class — his goal is to make everyone a reader and, more importantly, a writer. His students have received admittances to top schools including MIT, Columbia, Stanford, and Harker.
Outside of the classroom, you can catch Michael weaving through basketball courts just as he does with his writing composition.
