Ryan

Ryan holds an MA and Ph.D. in sociology from UC San Diego, and he has been a full-time lecturer at San Francisco State University since 2017. Over the past three decades, he has taught more than 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students at UCSD, the University of Kansas, Colgate University, Florida Atlantic University, St. Mary’s College of California, Cal State East Bay, and SFSU. His book, Sells like Teen Spirit: Music, Youth, and Social Crisis, was published by NYU Press, and he has written numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, chapters, encyclopedia entries, book reviews, and online newspaper articles.

Ryan has a patient and compassionate approach with students, working with them to develop unique individual narratives and perspectives that fulfill their potential as writers. He loves dogs, is a lifelong baseball fan, and travels extensively.
